B Lab EU: Hi! Tell us briefly who you are and what your company does.
Simple Feast:Simple Feast's mission is to create the future of food. We do this by inventing new ways of delivering high quality, nutritious and convenient plant-based food, as well as by innovating around production methods and subscription models. Our aim is to become the dominant player in the plant-based food & beverages business.
Our approach is to develop fresh, unprocessed and organic food that is high in nutritional value and flavour, while at the same time being highly convenient for the customer.
B Lab EU: Why did you decide to become a B Corp?
Simple Feast: Sustainability runs through everything we do here at Simple Feast. We are building a company that optimises for both impact and financial sustainability, so we strive to build both a high-performing and a high-empathy organisation, making sure our actions are based on a long-term perspective.
Alongside taking on responsibility for nutrition and cooking for our customers, we also take on responsibility for the sustainability of the food they eat and how it is served. For example, all our meals are delivered in FSC-approved cardboard boxes and we use frozen tap water as our cooling element so that it can be safely consumed by our customers as a part of the meal once defrosted. thers. Becoming B Corp is hands down the best way to do both.
B Lab EU: What will being a B Corp mean to you?
Simple Feast: Being a B Corp is a great way to both acknowledge our progress to date and confirm we are moving in the right direction, as well as give us an opportunity to benchmark our philosophy and practices against other organisations to improve over time.
The service we provide is delivered to offer people the option to make the right choices around food and sustainability, so we see a B Corp certification as an inspirational way to guide our actions as we grow the business. To us, being a B Corp provides us with the affirmation that we are acting with purpose in everything from our local to our global initiatives. We see it as a great way to stay socially and environmentally accountable.
B Lab EU: You're currently going through certification to become a B Corp. Have you had to make a lot of changes to your business and processes?
Simple Feast: Simple Feast was founded with the purpose of creating healthy and sustainable food products, so we have upheld high standards around our business and processes since we were incorporated. Despite this, the certification process has given us some new perspectives on our own documenting policies and procedures, which we have now put in place. Additionally, it has been great inspiration in terms of finishing our Employee Handbook and in relation to a sustainability project with the EU which we are involved in.
B Lab EU: What are you looking forward to most about the 2019 Summit?
Simple Feast: The submission is an opportunity for us to learn. Once we have submitted, we can commit even more to build our business towards our own mission of creating the future of food. As a B Corp we hope to be even more inspired as well as being able to share knowledge with other likeminded companies.

B Lab EU: What are your plans for the future to use your business as a force for good?
Simple Feast: We are building a company in which the sole purpose is to propel the world into primarily plant-based diets, for the sake of our planet and people’s health. Sustainability is at the core of what we do: we are not in business to make profits; we make profits to change the world.
We believe that becoming financially sustainable is a prerequisite for us to have social and environmental impact of the magnitude that we are hoping for, so we see our business as a vehicle to change people's habits towards more sustainable consumption, as they switch away from diets that are high in meat and processed food.
B Lab EU: Thank you and look forward to seeing you at the Summit!
