B Lab EU: Hi! Tell us briefly who you are and what your company does.
Tony's Chocolonely: Tony’s Chocolonely isn’t your average chocolate company, but a chocolate company with a huge mission; to end modern slavery and exploitation in the cocoa industry. With amazing chocolate recipes, we set the example and show that chocolate can be made in a more responsible way; in taste, packaging and the way we build long term relationships with cocoa farmers and the way we handle an open and transparent value chain.
B Lab EU: Why did you decide to become a B Corp?
Tony's Chocolonely: For Tony’s Chocolonely, financial success isn’t a goal in itself, it is an essential means towards our goal of 100% slave free chocolate worldwide. Being a B Corp emphasises that point perfectly.
B Lab EU: What does being a B Corp mean to you?
Tony's Chocolonely: Being a B Corp means taking responsibility as a company for our whole value chain and all the stakeholders within it. It also means that together with other B Corps in the world we show that we can achieve our goals of making this world a better place. Together we are more than just the sum of the parts.
B Lab EU: Have you seen business benefits of being a B Corp?
Tony's Chocolonely: Recently we have become a market leader in the Netherlands in chocolate bars, and we have seen a successful launch in the US and the UK and other countries in Europe. So we have seen great business success and feel we are actually making an impact in the value chain of cocoa and the world of chocolate.
B Lab EU: What are you looking forward to most about the 2019 Summit?
Tony's Chocolonely: We are looking forward to seeing other great initiatives and meeting inspiring people.
B Lab EU: What are your plans for the future to use your business as a force for good?
